We understand that from time to time things happen and where you can no longer attend to the scheduled appointment time. In the event of rescheduling or cancellation, we require that you respectfully advise us at least 48 hours notice prior. This gives us a chance to re-allocate the time to someone who may be in need of the appointment.
If less than 24 hours notice is given for your appointment cancellation, a cancellation fee will apply.
I am a member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) who are currently lobbying the Federal Government for our services to fall under the scope of the Medicare Mental Health Plan Scheme. We are currently unable to access funding from the scheme of Medicare at this time. Therefore a mental health plan is not required.
No, you DO NOT need a referral to see me. But a referral can be received if you have information from your GP or agency.
You will be asked to complete an intake form detailing some personal information on why you would like some counselling.
No, counsellors are not part of Medicare Better Access Scheme therefore you cannot claim on Medicare.
This means that you do not require a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP. This is beneficial to you if you do not want your sessions to be listed on your public health record
You may be eligible for a health fund rebate with some health funds.
Currently available for BUPA and funds in the ARHG. This will depend on your level of health insurance and also dependent on which health fund. Please ask which funds you may eligible for.
If you are self or plan managed through the NDIS then yes, I can provide services to you. I will require details to enable invoicing and payment of the fee. During my studies to be a counsellor and with my social work degree, I worked as a support worker and support co-ordinator. It gave me a great understanding of the complexities of everyday living for a person living with a disability.
Yes, I have a National Police check and a current Working with Children Card (WWCC)
A good fit for you and your counsellor is an important process. It is a personal choice and depends of several factors of personalities, trust and commitment. Maybe last time wasn't the right time for you. Open communication with your counsellor is very important. I liken it to going to see a GP or dentist sometimes you just don't gel and the right personalities for you wasn't quite right and that's ok. Finding what works for you is important and I am committed to making counselling a successful experience for you and with me.
How long is a piece of string? Your individual circumstances and needs will be tailored to you through assessment and a plan will be developed with your goals. The plan will be set out and changed accordingly when necessary with your goals and aspirations included. This will be set out for you to see. Appointments can be made weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
As a counsellor I cannot make any diagnosis therefore I have less emphasis on 'labelling' and put you into a category as a one fits all. I like to see you as a whole person not what you may be diagnosed with.
I may assess you for low moods or a suicidal risk assessment if I felt it was necessary in order to keep you safe.
Should you require a diagnosis please see your GP or a psychologist.
I take my work seriously.
I am a registered counsellor with ACA (Australian Counselling Association). I am ethically bound by the Code of Ethics set by ACA.
I also hold a Bachelors in Social Work and eligible to be registered by the AASW. As a social worker I also abide by the AASW Code of Ethics.
I undertake regular and ongoing professional development to ensure my skills are at the leading edge in counselling.
I undertake regular professional supervision as an accountability to make sure I am operative ethically.
My fees are in alignment with many other counsellors and below the recommended social work fee. Being a small business this entails a lot of costs to operate. This includes but not limited to telephone, website, booking platforms, registration fees, ongoing professional development requirements, supervision requirements, advertising, marketing, tax, pay my own superannuation all before I can see any payment for myself.
Psychology generally costs anywhere between $240-320 per session and medicare rebate is around $93 therefore my fees I believe are reasonable.
If you are struggling please let me know and I will at my discretion look at individual cases at a possible discount.
If you have a question and you do not see it above, please do not hesitate to reach out via phone, email, send a query through the website on the contact page. I will only be too happy to answer your query.
